Dave McCourt
All about Dave
I’m Bananadesign’s chief technical monkey as I’m fascinated by anything to do with computers and gadgets. I graduated in 1996 with an honours degree in Typography and Graphic Communication from the University of Reading. My interests are computing (Apple Macs in particular), information design, problem solving, art and the cinema. And of course ethics in graphic design.
After graduating I worked for Reed publishing, a small communications agency called WPB and the charity ActionAid. ActionAid helped shape my ethical stance and made me realise that my skills can help make a difference. Ive designed and produced numerous websites, screen presentations and interactive CD-roms. I like the challenge of the web as it is constantly changing and provides new ways of working and new challenges to the producer.
Im very interested in web standards and accessibility and how this is shaping the modern web.
My skillset includes: interface design and visualisation; coding with xHTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL and Actionscript; on the software side I know Flash, Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Illustrator inside-out. I havent forgotten my print roots and use Quark XPress and producton software such as Acrobat daily.
As a partner I’m responsible for a bit of everything including design and production, project management, IT development and technical troubleshooting.
When I was younger I was known as ‘Monkey’ for my ability to climb trees!
Five things you may not know about me:
- My favourite colour is fuschia
- I can say the word ‘together’ in five languages (English, Swedish, Italian, German, Mandarin)
- I’m interested in sub-atomic particle physics and superconductivity
- I like very weak, milky tea
- I wrote my dissertation on bullet points (so I may in fact be a world expert on them!)
